Born and raised in Singapore, Dr. Susan Lim was able to attend the Singapore Chinese Girls’ School there. She went to the Raffles Institution after that and graduated from that institution before choosing to study abroad. She next attended Monash University, which is one of the oldest and most respected universities in all of Australia. Monash University is the second oldest university in Victoria, and can be found in Melbourne. Monash University is known throughout the country, it is home to one of the largest student bodies of any tertiary institution in the country. Monash University is also known for housing some of the most advanced research centers in the country, which includes a number of research centers having to do with the medical field or medical technology.
Dr. Susan Lim was able to attend Monash University due to a scholarship she received from the Colombo Plan in 1974. The Colombo Plan is a regional program created in order to develop and strengthen social and economic ties in the Asian-Pacific region.
Dr. Susan Lim was born and raised in Singapore, which is an island nation based in the Asian-Pacific region. Singapore is made up of sixty-three islands in total and is considered a vital financial and medical center of the region. Dr. Lim in 1990 became the first person in Asia, male or female, to successfully transplant a liver from one subject to another.
